I'm so over this 3 month "temporary residency." We have almost completed 7 weeks here (5 more to go!), and I'm so ready to get back to Missouri. Last weekend, we road tripped to Lamar, which is about 3.5 hours from OKC. Yes, it's a shorter drive than STL will be, but at least I won't feel like I'm in some foreign land.
Tyler and I have a running list of the things we hate about Oklahoma. It keeps getting longer and longer, but I do have a much shorter list of things I like. I absolutely HATE the fact that they have tollroads! They are SOOOOOOOOOO annoying!!! I don't want to have to pay $8.60 ever time I go to Missouri, and I definitely don't want to stop to pay the dang thing. UGH! However, I do like the fact that the speed limit is 75 mph on the tollways.
I thought I would never say that I enjoy paying taxes, but Oklahoma has made me grateful for them. I will gladly pay Missouri State taxes just so I don't have to stop and pay to drive on the stinking highway!
But I can't complain! We are not paying for rent, utilities, or Tyler's rental car. His company has completely paid those expenses, and honestly, it couldn't be more of a blessing for us. We've gotten a head start on paying off Tyler's school bills, and by the time he's done here, we'll hopefully have more than half of them paid off!
I've also been given a fantastic opportunity to plan one of my best friend's bridal shower! I'm completely excited and the time off from school and a job has allowed me to focus on making her feel so special. I was so blessed by my cousins who planned my bridal showers. It was such a special time to have with friends and family, and I'm so thankful that they did so much just for me! I want to make my friend feel that way. Getting married is a BIG deal. It's the absolute best time of your life, and she deserves to be pampered and cared for!
This time has also given me several more weeks of looking for the perfect place to live in STL. My mom and I are going up to look at a couple complexes next week that have the amenities that we want! I'm excited to hopefully pick a place to live and have it nailed down. I just hope they won't be a disappointment. I'm excited to spend some mom-daughter time together. I miss hanging out with her...she's one of my best friends and we have SO much fun together.
Another thing I've been grateful for more recently is that my mom gave me her DVD series, "Beauty By the Book" Bible study. It's a study that focuses on Proverbs, and it has been very eye opening so far. I'm only finishing up week 2, but it's been really good! It teaches what the Bible says about beauty. It gives examples of Beauty Do's and Beauty Don'ts using the 5 women from Proverbs. Very good!
I know that we're here for a reason, and Tyler is enjoying his job (most of the time!). :] I'm just ready to be in STL where I know people and can make some new friends (actually, I can't wait to make new friends!). I know that the next 5 weeks will fly by and we'll be wondering where the time went! Positive attitude! :]
Beth,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear Tyler is enjoying his job and that you will soon be closer to family! It's an exciting (though sometimes stressful) time with so much change going on. I know the Lord will guide you according to His plan. I'm in the transition phase at the moment as well, and while it's exciting, I will also be glad when the Lord allows me to settle down and stay put for awhile lol! :) It will be exciting to see Him work.
I'm glad, too, that you have time to help a friend with her wedding; how fun! Who is getting married? I'm glad she has a friend like you to help make her day special. :)
I hope you have a wonderful day! God bless!
Beth,
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog and I miss you so much!!!! I'm glad you have this because it helps me to stay in touch with what is going on in your life as if we were still living close... it really makes the miles seem not as far. I love you so much and I'm so glad that you are over halfway done with your temporary stay in OKC!
Hope you have a good week!
Beth,
ReplyDeleteAnother thing you may hate about Oklahoma (I know I hate this personally about Oklahoma) is that the roadwork speed limits are practically turtle speed. Most of the time there are just a few cones on the shoulder and they still make you slow down to about 45 mph haha! Its ridiculous!!! I also hate the tolls. If you are ever in Tulsa we should go to lunch/dinner!
