Today, I'm taking a little break from "10 Commandments Tuesday." I apologize if you're disappointed, but I'm going to be honest with you. I haven't read the whole chapter for this week. :/ I want to be able to share with you what I've been learning, and I can't quite do that yet. It seems like this week has been really busy, and I haven't devoted much time to reading. I'm sorry.

I've been reading Joy's blog for a couple of months now. Her family is in the middle of adopting their precious girl.
I just love her heart...because in the middle of all this...trying to find the financial resources so they will be able to adopt Pie, she is wanting to give to others.
She "gets" the true meaning of Christmas.
Joy posted this morning about giving to others this Christmas season.
Now, I know that a lot of you are probably thinking, "It's not even Thanksgiving yet."
You're right, but you can be thinking of how you can give back this season.
Joy posted this a year ago, and I encourage you to read it to understand what I'm asking of you.
Each of you know someone.
Someone who is struggling financially.
Someone who lost a job.
Someone who is home bound and can't get out.
Someone who is going through a rough time.
Someone who is a single parent.
Someone who is adopting a child.
Someone who is just needing some encouragement.
Pick that person out.
Then, while you're grocery shopping, add items to your cart that the person or family you have in mind might need. You don't have to do it all in one trip.
Start collecting it now. A little at a time.
It could be toilet paper, napkins, plates, groceries, toys, clothes, diapers, laundry detergent...anything.
Do you know someone traveling back and forth to the hospital to get cancer treatments? Add a gas card or restaurant gift card.
Put some necessities in there, but also add some fun stuff. :)
When you get all of your items gathered, put it in a box.
Make it pretty!
Add a card or note about why you're doing this.
Jesus is the reason, people!
He's the reason we celebrate this season!!
It is through Him that we may have life!
Don't sign the note or card.
But take it to that neighbor.
That co-worker.
That minister.
That single parent.
The family who is having financial difficulties.
When you take it to them...be sneaky.
Take it to them when they won't be home.
Or late at night when they would be in bed.
Or early in the morning before they leave for work.
But don't get caught!
You may ask, "What do I get out of this?"
Well, friends, you get the joy from it.
You get to know that you shared what God is all about.
And you might have answered a prayer of theirs.
They might not have had money for toilet paper.
Yet, you stuck some in the box to take to them.
I know you can find the way to help someone out this season.
Even if you have to give up your morning coffee or afternoon Sonic happy hour drink.
Joy says in her blog post today, "Even I can afford to share what I have, what I can't afford is to not share what I have."
Friends, let's bring Christ to our neighbors this year.

ReplyDeleteJust reading this on December 6th, I feel that I'm running VERY VERY late. I do know of one person but what I would buy for her would actually be for her daughter. This year they have enough money to get by and pay all of their bills but they don't have enough for Christmas. I know what I have to do!
